The piece recalls the sensation of instability that occurs when the earth manifests itself in storms, earthquakes ... but in its most subtle form, that of the invisible forces that generate vibratory alterations. The movement of the earth that is expressed soundly through the structures with which these forces interact.
But this time, this force, this vibration and shaking, is controlled, it does not hurt, nor does it cause victims, but it is translated into a piece to be experienced sensory and with the body.
The piece is embedded in the pier almost invisibly, since it uses the existing furniture (in this case one of the wooden and metal benches on the pier). The piece cannot be heard, only felt. These are two large speakers (subwoofer) placed under the bench in which a piece recorded in the 20Hz range is played that lasts 3min and grows exponentially until a peak and then decreases and fades away. The piece is a loop that lasts 3 min and then 5 min of silence.
“Cuando Habla la Tierra” is a piece that was conceived specifically following the theme of the exhibition - ALUVION in remembrance of the tragedy that struck the city of Antofagasta in 1991 with severe storm and flooding.
On display at the Historic Melbourne Clark Pier in Antofagasta from 21 October to 15 December.

ARTIST TALK
On the occasion of my installation in Antofagasta at I've made an artist talk for the SACO Contemporary Art Biennial in Chile.
I talked about my piece “Cuando Habla la Tierra" and about new ways of listening to our environment, the soundscape, bio-acoustics and acoustic ecology, field recordings, deep listening and spatial sound understood in the context of deep crisis and environmental instability of the Anthropocene.
