GAMESTATION is a special project created for the exhibition “Empieza el Juego” at La Casa Encendida, Madrid. Curated by David Arlandis and Javier Marroquí within the framework of the Inéditos 2006 Program.

For this exhibition I devised a series of interactive games so that the exhibition would not be documentary and static in nature, but on the contrary, would become a meeting point and participatory game not only within the room, but also in the entire enclosure.

The idea was to reproduce traditional games, but here in macro format (large format) and all handmade by the artist. The name Gamestation alludes to and sought to confront the super popular Playstation gaming platform, making a parallel between the game in analog format (from the time in which I grew up) and the digital one (with which children are growing up today).

Among the games were:

· BATTLESHIP /HUNDIR LA FLOTA

One of the reasons why I wanted to recreate this game, was the possibility of playing it inside and outside the exhibition hall. To do this, one of the game boards was inside the exhibition hall (player #1) and the other board was placed elsewhere in the museum (player #2). The participants communicated with each other through Walkie-Talkies. It was very interesting to see that it was not necessary for players who knew each other to play, but that any visitor to the La Casa Encendida Art Center could pick up the Walkie Talkie and check if there was another player in the other position to start the game.

This piece, including the ships of the naval fleets, were handmade by the artist.

· PIN THE TAIL ON THE DONKEY / PONERLE LA COLA AL BURRO.

With this children's game, I was interested in making the participant and visitor have a different experience in the exhibition space, having to walk through it blindfolded. The game was for two or more people: one of them blindfolded and the other(s) guiding this person to attach the tail to a donkey that was placed on the wall of the room.

I also liked the fact that visitors found themselves upon entering the room with a blindfolded person walking through the space without knowing why... This is a very popular game for children on birthdays in Venezuela.

For this occasion, I used the silhouette of the Catalan donkey, as a nod to the city in which I live.

· MEMORY GAME / JUEGO DE MEMORIA

The game that consists of picking up cards and finding the pair (equal) using memory. On this occasion, what was represented in the images of the giant cards were maps of various countries in which the artist has lived.

· CROSSWORDS / CRUCIGRAMAS

Several large crossword puzzles were made with various motifs and each one with different themes that rotated in space as they were filled out. The interesting thing was that some people only filled in a word they knew and another person (and at a different time) filled in another word and so on until completing the crossword puzzle.

· SPIN THE BOTTLE / LA BOTELLITA

The little bottle is the name of one of the most played games at meetings and parties when I was a teenager. This simple game of sitting in a group in a circle and spinning the bottle to perform challenges, actions or confessions. I was interested in suggesting this type of game between groups of visitors to the museum who were unknown to each other.
